Enquiries are ongoing following an incident in Bembridge that saw a 14-year-old boy get knocked from his bicycle by a car yesterday evening (Thursday).
Officers were called at around 18:00 following the collision on Swains Road – near the junction with Forelands Road.
It’s understood that the male driver of a red Volkswagon Golf, believed to be in his 60s, stopped to check on the boy and asked if he was okay.
The man then left the scene after the boy said yes.
It has since been further reported that the 14-year-old suffered minor injuries in the incident and significant damage was caused to his bicycle.
Hampshire Constabulary says that enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. If you have any further information, you are asked to contact police on 101.
Well the gentleman in the car did the decent thing and stopped to ask if the boy was ok.
Didn’t offer to make sure the boy got home okay and to pay for the repairs to his bike though.
Well the boy said he was okay. And how was the gentleman to make sure the boy got home okay? Abduct him into his car or something? If the boy had said no he wasn’t okay, it sounds like the gentleman would have not driven off, but he did say he was okay, so I don’t see anything terribly wrong here, The man was assured by the boy that he was okay. He wasn’t to know that the boy would say something different later on, maybe he thought he was okay at the time and then later felt he wasn’t. It doesn’t sound like anyone is to blame for anything here, just an unfortunate incident.
All part of growing up, and the pitfalls therein. However, would the driver of the car take the same course of action with another motorist? I think not. Insurance details exchanged, contact numbers, etc. Possibly police involved, just a nipper on his bicycle and it’s, ‘Sorry, Sonny. Glad you seem all right!’ Vroom, vroom.
