Emergency crews – both on and off duty – assisted an injured person in the West Wight last night (Friday).
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service alongside the Freshwater Fire Service Co-Responder were sent to Freshwater Bay after reports were received of a person being injured.
Upon the arrival of the crews, the patient was already being assisted by members of the community, including an off-duty Coastguard Rescue Officer from the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, a member of the Needles Coastwatch Team, and 2 off duty hospital doctors as well as several members of the public.
This community ‘team’ had already managed to stabilise the patient and splint their leg – which was suspected to be broken. Important information had also been gathered from the patient.
The off duty hospital doctors assisted the paramedic team in loading the injured party on to the ambulance, and they were then conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
