Smoke pouring from Island Flyer at the Hovertravel terminal in Southsea prompted a response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service on last night (Wednesday).
Firefighters were called to the scene on Clarence Esplanade at around 17:30 following reports of smoke coming from the hovercraft.
On arrival, crews discovered that the fire had already been extinguished by the vessel’s onboard fire suppression system.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to cool the engine compartment before carrying out safety checks to ensure there was no remaining risk.
The incident was brought under control without further issue, with crews leaving the scene and returning to station shortly after 18:30.
No injuries have been reported.
