East Cowes Town Council is bidding to restore its much-loved Town Hall. The building, which dates back to 1897, remains in public use for community events, private hire, and town council meetings. However, it now requires significant work to be carried out to the exterior of the building and the roof. The Town Council has asked for £150,000 from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund to carry out the works. The Island’s MP, Bob Seely, has written to Levelling Up Minister, Jacob Young, in support of the bid. In his letter, Mr Seely said:
“As you know, one of the aims of the Community Ownership Fund is to help community groups such as the East Cowes Town Council maintain assets that are important to the community. “The East Cowes Town Hall is a significant asset to the public and the character of East Cowes. I am happy to offer the bid my full support.”

Whitehall must be submeging under the sudden torrent of begging letters from Dr Bob.
Still, mustn’t miss a useful bandwagon, eh, Bob?
Go Bob! Champion of the people of East Cowes……. apparently.
If we where still in the EU you would probably have got the funds
Maby start by restoring queen Victoria’s badly maintained non illuminated circular sign down the hill to red funnel..
Waste of money, sell it off to a developer.
Does anyone still use this place?
Sorry East Cowes but our Ryde town hall was built in 1831, some 66 years before. (Nah, nah, na, na, nah). Yours is still useable while ours is exhausted and neglected. We need the £150k, then some. Would someone from ‘Team Bob’ like to comment?
