A driver of a car that was involved in a road traffic incident on the Military Road on Friday was found to be driving without insurance.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police attended a collision on Military Road on Friday morning where a black Kia Picanto had rolled into a hedge near the Dinosaur Farm.
It is believed that the crash occurred as a result of the driver, who has now been found to have been driving without insurance, braking suddenly to avoid a speed van that is often parked in the area.
Police attended the scene at the time of incident but the car was left in the hedge, spotted by multiple Island Echo readers.
Surprisingly, the car was recovered some near minutes before Police attended the scene once more at around 12:00.
At the time of the incident, Police were unable to check the vehicle due to a technical issue. But it has been confirmed today (Saturday) that the driver was indeed driving without insurance.
Hampshire Constabulary visited the driver and issued them with a traffic offence report (TOR). They will also be fined £300 and issued 6 points on their licence.
This is the 5th car that Police have seized across the Island today for driving without insurance.

Yay !! Don’t forget to check out those small motorbikes.. !! bet none are properly insured…
Yes you are right. I’ve been building custom motor bikes and rebuilding classic bikes for 40 years. These L plate bikes are not road worthy. The last point of the bike at the rear can not be the tyre. That is why new bikes have them long stalks so the number plate is the last point of the bike. Modifying your Honda Grom so that is not the case means that you are no longer covered by your insurance. Also, cutting down your L plate is not allowed.
Well that’s not rocket science of course they didn’t and why do the police just go to the military road all the time people drive round are towns to fast all the time and nothing is done
driving without insurance. Dear oh dear. If you do this its like carrying a weapon in your pocket. It can do some real damage.
You can’t be in the real world so who pays out the damages the you have made. Not you. You just get six points. And a tiny fine.
If any drivers have no insurance, any assets they have can and will be taken…even your property should you have a house, your assets will be needed to compensate your victims…
Don’t drive without insurance or your working life will be for nothing…it’s not worth it!…
I’m sure many people on here will definitely defend this idiot, because all they worry about is my spelling….more idiots will be along soon, along with their stupid childish remarks…
You are so far off the mark, it’s frightening. Your poor spelling really is the least of your worries.
You clearly have an issue with anyone with an opinion that is not yours and you react with insults. Grow up! Stop your immature stupidity and get a hobby.
He’s a classic egocentric. He’ll never listen to, or take any notice of anything any of us will tell him. The sad thing is, he has no idea what a fool he makes of himself, day after day.
Could not agree more, it is unfortunate he is allowed to continue with his abusive and aggressive manner unchecked. We all know the point he makes, regardless of any facts, he condemns all the same way. very sad individual.
More to the point, this individual has been proven to be in the wrong and a waste of space, putting lives in danger and livelihoods.
No one should defend this person who deserves more than a few points, disqualification or fine. It is time for the Courts to hand out real deterrents.
Yep, totally agree, so many stupid, yoke snowflakes in the comment sections at the moment. So many muppets on the road who don’t have a clue or are too high on weed to drive. Morons. Lol
What’s wrong with weed?
You seem to mention it alot. What’s the problem??
What’s wrong? It stinks and thousands of weak pathetic people smoke it everyday, plus most drive under the influence. It’s a blight on society and should be banned….end of. Lol
It is banned.
And once again I would like you to walk around Amsterdam or any other country that hasn’t made it illegal and call them weak and pathetic to their face and see how far that gets you.
Would you say Elon musk is weak and pathetic because he has smoked weed? Or anyone else with a higher status than you?
You do realise that alot of the rich and famous take alot worse drugs than weed. And they seem to be doing just fine in life.
It’s the abuse of drugs and alcohol that kills, not the substance.
End of as you like to say 😉
What has status got to do with anything…lol Not gonna waste my time on this thread responding to deluded people who can’t accept facts. Lol
Should be regulated and legalised think of all the tax money going into the countries pockets instead of going into gangsters pockets. It would free up police and courts times which again benefits the tax purse.
Somebody driving around on the iow with no insurance surely not ?.
Probably because the police took 2 hours to attend
Got what he deserved.
Should not have been on the road-end of. Well done to the police for hitting him in the pocket. The roads are a little safer now thanks to your actions.
People driving with NO MOT = VOID INSURANCE, IF THEY EVEN HAVE INSURANCE.
What an absolute idiot! Yes more idiots will be along soon. It’s lucky the driver didn’t hurt anyone else out driving minding their own business. If that driver had hit someone else’s car without insurance????? Name the person? Well done to the police keep it up.
JUST six points for no insurance?
There are a lot of ‘holier than thou’, judgmental, spiteful, serial keyboard warriors on this site! Yes, it’s against the law to drive whilst uninsured and I don’t condone it but it’s long past time the insurance industry was regulated. They have FORCED youngsters into driving without insurance because their premiums are laughably high. I know youngster’s have bought their first car for a few hundred pounds and then are being charged £6000+ to insure it. When it’s their 1st car, 1st job, etc. their parents have tried insuring under their names, which isn’t legal, and they can’t rely on public transport for early/late winter shift patterns, or they’re in their first home and trying to budget rent, who can blame them when their ext
Get a push bike. Until you can pay you’re way. No excuse.
What an absolute stupid comment to make, just hope one of these uninsured idiots dont hit you as you would have a different opinion then about them and would want the book thrown at them.
I would suggest that unless you have something sensible to add to this story that you to dont become a keyboard warrior yourself and write down this dribble you have come out with.
Yes I agree the car insurance is high but youngsters can have a tracking box fitted and if they attend advanced driver classes can get a reduction on their insurance. Also if all youngsters drove a bit more carefully the premium would come down for all young people. So the answer lies with better more responsible driving. Also buy a car that’s not such a risk to insure.
Ride a bike. Smart you need to back track.
Insurance isn’t some welfare provision for boy racers.
Premiums reflect the accidents and damage caused by frequent younger drivers accidents. If they drove with less accidents for that age group be it due to inexperience or recklessness, premiums would obviously be lower.
if you were the underwriter, you’d also be balking at the suggestion of insuring a post-child liability in a ton of steel, for just a couple of quid.
Naive to think otherwise, and smarts of entitlement.
Sorry, you’re 100% wrong . The fact is, a young inexperienced driver is a huge risk for an insurance company so the preium reflects that.Same with life insurance or an annuity. the cost/payout is geare to risk/life expectancy. Tell an insurance company yo smoke 60 fags a day and watch your premiums rocket.
“Its long past time the insurance industry was regulated” It is regulated – highly. Idiot.
No insurance, No car.
It is because of so many irresponsible drivers that insurance is so high. I sympathise with decent young drivers who pay the price due to those who drive like they own the road and destroy lives.
£300 is not enough…it’s way cheaper than getting insurance in the first place…the fine should be at least £3000 and 9 points…and a community order.
It’s not actually. Not if you have been driving for some years anyway. My insurance is under £200 a year.
Over and ovener is talking about youngster’s insurance.
More traffic police are coming to the island according to our leader. Meaning more mobile speed vans in the future.
Fit the speed vans with ANPR too… that will catch the no ins/no tax etc. It’s a no brainer. Why hasn’t it been done ?
Just put a camera on all the petrol stations. Auto report any vehicle that has no MOT or TAX. Job done. Clear it all up with in a month.
Thank goodness no one else was involved in the incident. Hope the driver gets his just desserts for having no insurance, he may then appreciate the reason why there are rules when driving.
How about capping car insurance prices if it was reasonable less people would avoid paying it. I doubt anyone would agree their car insurance is a fair price.
I know the driver and he’s a hard working family man. He was taking his young daughter to a mainland appointment and was driving under 70mph. As he rounded the bend the wind caught him broadside and pushed the car across the central line, he braked to avoid going further and correct his line, the car slid on the wet road and the rest is history. As for no insurance, Direct line, for reasons they only know and unbeknown to the driver, cancelled the policy at some point and it wasn’t until the accident that it came to light, which has happened to a lot of drivers around the UK, how many of you check to see if your policy is live. If they’d known, they wouldn’t have been driving, end of. Wait for facts before spitting your self righteous bile
