Wightlink Ferries are once again sponsoring the Sporting Bears Motor Club, who will be at the Joe Ellis Funday at Arreton Barns on Saturday (24th June).
The Sporting Bears Motor Club is made up of a group of passionate car enthusiasts who raise money for children’s charities at a variety of events, including some on the Island.
Owners of classic and sports cars belonging to the club bring their cars to Island events and invite people to take Dream Rides in them, in exchange for donations to the good causes. Dream cars making an appearance at the Joe Ellis Funday will include a Lamborghini, Bentley, Lotus, TVR and a Mustang. Wightlink supports the owners to transport their cars across the Solent.
Island charities supported by the Sporting Bears are:
• Joe Ellis Trust, supporting children on the Island fighting cancer
• Challenge and Adventure, helping teenagers who need support
• Beaulieu House, providing respite care for severely disabled children
• YMCA Young Carers, supporting children caring for a seriously ill family member
Isle of Wight co-ordinator Clive Ford explains:
“Every penny we raise goes to charity as we are all volunteers who love helping children. Through offering Dream Rides at the Garlic Festival over the last three years, we have already raised more than £8,000 for local children’s charities.”
Wightlink’s Chief Executive Keith Greenfield said:
“It’s wonderful to see these amazing classic and sports cars on board Wightlink’s ferries and we are delighted to support them again this year.
The Sporting Bears will also be at the Isle of Wight Council’s Short Breaks Funday on 28th July with a static car display. This event is for Island children with disabilities and special needs. The cars will feature again at the Garlic Festival on 19/20th August. To round off the year, the Sporting Bears will hold their popular Miles For Smiles event on 9th December, offering rides to children from the YMCA Young Carers, St Georges School and Beaulieu House.
