Wightlink is advising of delays of up to an hour on its Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service today (Tuesday) due to staff shortages.
It’s said that due to the absence of an essential member of the crew, customers may experience delays of up to 1 hour.
Those travelling across the Solent with Wightlink are asked to arrive at the usual check in time for your original sailing, with staff working to reduce the delay.
Red Funnel are also struggling with staffing issues this week with the hi-speed Red Jet running a 1-boat service today. There are also cancellations on Island Line trains due to staff shortages, as previously reported by Island Echo.

Why don’t the native British want to work anymore, they appear to use any excuse not to work….
https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/work-pay-and-benefits/unemployment-and-economic-inactivity/economic-inactivity/latest
in 2021, 22% of working age people in England, Scotland and Wales were economically inactive – this means they were out of work and not looking for a job
in every region, white people had a lower rate of economic inactivity than people from all other ethnic groups combined
21% of white people were economically inactive, compared with 27% of people from all other ethnic groups combined
Just goes to prove – those turning up in this country are claiming benefits and just being spongers.
so, not so much the white majority, native population as you think good driver.
Your well informed and articulat….
“Your well informed and articulat….”
Because you would know?
“21% of white people were economically inactive, compared with 27% of people from all other ethnic groups combined”
So, of course, this may be interpreted as ethnic groups are 6% more economically inactive than “white people”
Lies, damed lies and statistics….
“21% of white people were economically inactive, compared with 27% of people from all other ethnic groups combined”
Actually, this may be interpreted as ethnic groups are over 28% more economically inactive than “white people”
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/economic-labour-market-status-of-individuals-aged-50-and-over-trends-over-time-september-2022/economic-labour-market-status-of-individuals-aged-50-and-over-trends-over-time-september-2022
Economic inactivity for those between 60 and 64 is 49% and 39% for those aged 50 to 64.
Economic inactivity for those under 50 is 12%
So according to your premise that economic inactivity is synonymous with being a “sponger”, we can conclude that the over 50s are the biggest spongers in the country, can’t we?
Cherry-picking stats is a stupid thing to do because you leave yourself open to someone coming right back at you with the same trick.
Always a delight to see “wighter” pwned
It’s not that they don’t want to work, it’s just that they can get better pay elsewhere.
With seasonally adjusted unemployment rates at under 4% people can pick and choose who to work for.
Obviously there is a hardcore who won’t work, but the issue is that there are far more vacancies than people to fill them.
The folk who would work for the kind of pay Wightlink offer are now back in their own countries.
Brexit has made good on its promise of British jobs for British people. Rejoice.
No it’s because the benefit system is to good so all the bums don’t want to work because it affects there universal credit
This is the current go-to excuse. First it was the weather, then Brexit, then COVID. We all know it is simply because our island’s transport providers are utterly useless. That’s why no-one wants to work for them.
So glad I left the island recently. After over 50 years living here the ongoing commute and travel issues broke me. No more ferry companies holding me to ransom. Flexibility is now my friend
I wonder if Wightlink will show this in their.. HOW DID WE DO.. post ?? The pie chart should have many bites out of it…
So……. The day after the news “story” that our MP had managed to persuade the ferry company to change the times of 4 ferries to help “joined-up travel”:
Yarmouth route delays of an hour.
Red jet down to a one boat service.
Island line trains cancelled.
More work to do there, Bob!
The less staff the ferry operators and railway employ, the bigger the profits they make.
That means they won’t have any cover when a few people go sick at the same time.
Railways and ferries should have stayed as nationalised companies.
And been subsidised by the rest of us and lost lots of money and back to the old working practices three men doing one person’s job I don’t think so.
