33 Islanders have now sadly died with COVID-19 at St Mary’s Hospital, it has been confirmed this afternoon (Saturday).
NHS England says that the latest individual to die from COVID-19 passed away in the Isle of Wight’s only hospital yesterday (Friday). The in-hospital death toll previously stood at 32 as of Tuesday.
Across the Island, a total of 47 people have now died from COVID-19. ONS figures show that 14 people have died outside of the hospital environment including 10 in care homes, 3 at home and 1 at Mountbatten Hospice.
25 people admitted to hospital have recovered from coronavirus according to the Isle of Wight NHS Trust – but this number has hardly moved in the past 2 weeks. The Trust have not issued a statement in several days. The number of recoveries in the community is unknown.
As of 15th May, 166 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded on the Isle of Wight. This number remains fairly low in comparison to other areas, even after the launch of a testing facility at Medina Leisure Centre car park and home swabbing through the NHSX app.

and some clown is busking on Ryde seafront next to the Ryde Pier cafe with a saxophone …hardly an essential reason for being out, or exercise.
I guess he is just trying to cheer people up in these desperate times, and, if going by your response, failing miserably.
harry – do not want those noisy clowns strangling a cat on the sea front
If this pandemic goes on for much longer we won’t have an economy left to pay for the NHS or benefits and furlow.
One things for sure, we will have to pay for this one day, and it won’t matter who you vote for. It’s going to be a diferent and difficult world to the one we live in now,
One things for sure we need to stop some foreign investors and invest in ourselves, by training our own people instead of using foreign Labour.
I am very grateful that the NHS has been sufficiently staffed by national and foreign trained workers, we need access to a global economy for labour.
That’s the situation we find ourselves these days, at one time we did train our own and we didn’t have massive immigration on this scale.
Even during the industrial revolution we didn’t have immigration on this scale, globalist created wealth for big corporations, at the same time created poverty. You only have to look at third world countries to now that.
Once proude nations are in debt up too their necks because of globalisation, especially some EU countries, they can’t even control their own laws without interference from their rulers.
Apparently there are hoards of people everywhere today . Ryde seafront cowes seafront brading downs rammed. Do people not understand we are still in lockdown albeit slightly eased . There will be more deaths and infections on the island due to the ignorance of these people. I know we have to start somewhere but this is too soon for everyone to be out in such numbers
As long as you’re socially distancing at 2 metres, being out in the open air is far healthier than cooped up indoors.
We have not been in lockdown long enough. I understand people want to get out, the weather is getting better and exercise is good blah blah blah BUT THIS IS A KILLER VIRUS. We will see numbers of infections jumping up before too long if people do not follow the 2 metre rule and continue with strict hand hygiene. Of course we all want to get back to normal but truthfully, this is going to be a long way off yet. Folks have got to understand this.
opinions matter – it is not a 2 metre rule – public health england said it is an advisory and cannot be enforced.
give it a rest- people are going out and getting back to normal whether you like it or not.
Absolutely Smithy, I agree too early. A lot of folks going out now as if the virus has gone. It has not. Government is at fault, too wishy washy and not giving clear and concise guidelines. People now think they can do as they like.
Smithy. It’s all part of the master plan; ease lockdown, loads go out, many get infected, but now you have the App, you can report back. Now they can see how fast and how far it spreads, ( in a contained area – the island ). They weren’t going to get this Information by everyone staying in and social distancing.
Just my view.
I agree Terry. This virus, in my opinion is not “normal” politicians have their own agenda, they know what they ‘know’ I have my opinion about this virus. Yes, the island is being used for their plan.
What amazes me is how they keep saying children will not become ill if they catch Coronavirus, so they think schools opening would be safe . But children can catch this and they can take it home to their family . If any member of their family have underlined health issues then they can become seriously ill , as can teachers .
Some idiots just do as they want and have to be told what the word Alert means, same bozos that are about in normal times
I’ve noticed that the public shelter in Ryde opposite the Parish Church has been fenced off. I wonder why? If it’s to stop the usual types who seem to live in there, then it’s a bit late as they have been still congregating in there until very recently.
If it is to keep them out, then it’s a shame that it’s because of trying to keep those sort out, anyone who feels the need to just sit down in the front facing the church and the sun, after a trudge back from the shops with heavy shopping, is now unable to.
So many benches have been taken away because they got colonised by the wrong sorts of people and the council no doubt got complaints from residents, so took the benches away. We’ve lost so many, and now this shelter, which had been taken over by scummy types for so long, I just hope we are not going to lose that permanently, it was sometimes possible to sit on the outer bench there when the lowlife were occasionally absent, I hope the council are not going to take it away for good.
