As part of BRAKE National Road safety week, well-known Island magician David Randini has decided to make it Isle of Wight Road Safety Month and extend his tour of road safety magic shows at schools around the Island.
So far this year, David has performed 22 shows at 11 primary schools to around 2500 Island students, with the demand so huge the shows are no spilling over to December all the way up until Christmas.
David has been performing the shows for over 21 years and is rapidly approaching his 1500th performance.
After continued success, many schools across the Island have requested David to run his show at their establishments and as a result, shows look set to run into the new year.
David has said:
“Road safety is a funny thing, the more successful you are the fewer people want it, and I have used my micro-celebrity status to promote Road Safety in a pro-active and not reactive way. I have always believed that my job is to support the wonderful work of those road safety professionals who have all aspects of road safety to consider and help by using my presenting skills to bring particularly Child Pedestrian Road Safety to the fore.
“Most importantly never forgetting why I started these shows in the first place because of the sad loss of 2 of children on Island Roads and trying to help make sure that no parent should go through this terrible tragedy and loss in the future. For me every week is Road safety week.”

How about Banning Pavement Parking.
I am fed up having to cross many roads when walking the dog due to
Vehicles being parked on Pavements.
So…where are you going to park your car? What if an owner has mobility issues and needs to part nearer a place for their convience? Or, perhaps they do not have a huge driveway. What next? Park a mile away?
Sure, it can be frustrating when cars are semi-parked on the pavement, however it is not the end of the world or something worth kicking up about. I’m sure you can agree with me here, it is just poor town planning in the end of the day. If the world were perfect, parking spaces would be plentiful and roads more than wide enough. But this is the UK, many of our roads were built either before the engine was invented or designed based on traditional transport sizes.
,any vehicles I see parked on pavements are not persons with Mobility issues,
they are lazy individuals who think they can do what they want.
I have nothing against Mobility vehicles parking on pavements, it just persons who
are selfish I have an issue with.
So many people think by owning a property they own the Pavement outside the property!
Personally I am for permit parking down all Island Roads, obviously Motability persons will be exempt from paying the permit fee.
The money raised from the permits can be used to make the Roads a safe place for everyone.

…
erm no – people with motability get DLA/PIP/free or subsidised cars and a whole host of other benefits – they also demand to be treated equally, so they can pay for their permit – as their benefit package often exceeds the net pay of an able bodied worker.
What if an owner has mobility issues and needs to part nearer a place.
….
people with disabilities demand to be treated in an equal manner to able bodied people – that means no parking on pavements – cannot have it both ways.
David is a great guy. He’s done shows for us in the past. He’s a fighter. Well done David.
Used to watch David’s shows as a kid. Fantastic guy!
Absolute legend!

Randini fled a party half way through back in the day…. His wife was in labour though!
Maria’s account although humerus is not technically accurate. My son was born at 10.25pm on a Saturday after performing 5 shows that day. For various reasons he was born in Portsmouth her waters broke at 8.50pm and I just made the birth. My daughter was born at home and I had a pager in those days, it went off while I was taking my son swimming at West Wight swimming pool. Mylate father performed a show that afternoon for me for a Mrs Love. So although I didn’t flee a show., they got the Great Randini instead, who incidentally is still one of the greatest magicals that I have ever seen.
