A road traffic collision on the main road into East Cowes is causing rush hour tailbacks this evening (Wednesday).
The incident has happened on Whippingham Road between Racecourse Roundabout and Folly Lane.
Traffic is heavy heading in and out of East Cowes, especially with the arrival of the 17:00 car ferry from Southampton.
Police are on scene.
UPDATE – Island Echo understands 2 vehicles have been involved, with 1 person thought to have been taken to hospital.
The scene has now been cleared.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that 1 person suffered minor injuries in the collision, which occurred at 17:48.

Oh well, maybe less RUSHING and they’ll be less accidents on the Island. Very few people have a clue how to drive safely. Most BMW or Range Rover drivers are the worst; arrogant, entitled muppets. Lol
It was actually an Audi (as normal ) but close enough
include audi drivers in the list
That’s worth a write up in its self,a ferry to the island actually working !!!!
OK, so what was the update then? Looks the same as it was when you first posted it. And whilst I am on the subject of updates, is there any way you can qualify ‘Updates’ on the headline? Sometimes there is more than one update to a story, yet without keep reopening it, there is no way of telling if there have been further updates. Maybe something like ‘Update #2 @ 21:05’ Just a thought for an otherwise excellent news site.
PS I do expect to get this deleted, but at least you will have read it.
Where’s the so called tarmac everywhere person? Guess what dip####, it is tarmac. Get over your hatred towards railways, or be a human being and expose yourself so those that disagree can argue against your opinion
Translation please
I’m not sure that even he/she knows what they are trying to say. I honestly think that some of the people that comment here are seriously disturbed mentally.
Thank goodness for Waze! We were on the 18:00 from Southampton and having turned round after we realised there was obviously a problem, Waze found us a way round the blockage!
Hope all involved were not seriously injured, well done to our emergency services for sorting this out so quickly.
