Emergency services including HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance on Sandown Esplanade after reports of an incident involving people in the water this afternoon (Tuesday).
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, alongside 2 ambulances, responded to the scene at around 16:50 after receiving an emergency call from the Sandown Beach Lifeguards.
Island Echo has been told that lifeguards sprung into action after noticing 2 people – believed to be a woman and a child – struggling in the water. Both persons involved were subsequently pulled from the sea.
An emergency call was subsequently made and paramedics rushed to the scene to assess and treat the casualties for any injuries sustained during the incident.
Coastguard Rescue Officers were tasked to assist with safety and any possible casualty needs.
The condition of the casualties is currently unknown, but it is not thought anyone has sustained any serious injuries.
UPDATE @ 18:30 – Island Echo understands that an off duty doctor who has been on holiday on the Island joined efforts with the crews to assist the 2 people pulled from the water.
Emergency teams have now stood down from the incident.






























































































I spotted the woman and the boy in distress. She was shouting and waving a red spade. I alerted my husband. People in the water were just looking. My husband jumped in the water after borrowing a floaty from a child and swam to them. Lifeguard and other people came to help when he was almost reaching the beach. I hope they are ok now.
Useless lifeguard then….thank goodness your husband was there….could of been a different story otherwise
