Walkers enjoying the beach as part of their daily exercise are warned that the coastline between Shanklin and Luccombe is unstable and poses a risk to public safety.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to the seaside location at 18:30 this evening (Tuesday) following reports of a large cliff fall in the area.
The scale of the situation was documented and reported back to the National Maritime Operations Centre at Fareham.
Coastguard Rescue Officers also provided vital safety advice to people walking in the area, with the support of the Police, as well as liaising with the Isle of Wight Council’s emergency planning team.
Islanders are being told to avoid this area for walks at this time – the cliff is falling in multiple places unexpectedly.
If you see a cliff fall around the Island’s coastline you should leave the area, dial 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD.

Seen this happen an left a note on the police dog car on hope beach to inform them . Sounded like thunder or a helicopter coming. I shouted to 3 people to turn to watch it.
I’m sorry to hear that you feel especially affected, but I am most concerned about this sneer at the Chinese community. Yes it originated in China so yes, “a Chinese person” or “Chinese persons” are likely to be involved in some way – be it accidentally or on purpose, as some newspapers would have us believe (yet what is fake news and what is correct??) – however this type of comment may cause some individuals to start blaming “ALL” Chinese, or people of Chinese appearance, whereas they, like you, have nothing to do with the occurrence of this virus.
I am NOT blaming the Chinese community at all. I like the Chinese people who are for the most part, unlike the majority of other races I have had the misfortune to know, are polite, respectful and decent, I am referring to the irony of it all, that a Chinese person (could have been any other race) who ate a bat, has stopped me looking for fossils on an Isle of Wight beach.
Who actually owns the rights to collect fossils legally, anyway?
you appear to have far exceeded the human capacity for both human stupidity and paranoia. as a drug dealer i can confirm that i will not be accepting ammonites as payment. all the rocks will still be there when this is over you strange.. strange man. i mean many would worry that there might not be many people left after all this but no, you’re worried about being able to collect fossils. absolutely bizarre.
I found some ammonites, lovely ones too, just chopped them in for half ounce, thanks for not finding them knighton, you’ll have to just keep bat watching X
