A female pedestrian has sustained minor injuries following a collision involving an e-bike on the Isle of Wight this morning (Friday).
Police were called at 09:19 to reports of a collision on the A3021 near Whippingham involving a female pedestrian and a male riding an e-bike.
Emergency services attended the scene, where the pedestrian was found to have sustained minor injuries.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is now appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 44260368394.

It happened on a pavement and its illegal to even ride a pedal bike on a pavement. So of it wasn’t ridden on a pavement it could have all been avoided.

There are a lot of responsible e cyclists, me being one of them, I use it both for cycling to the shops and further afield rather than using the car thereby reducing pollution which of course benefits us all, with the best will in the world accidents unfortunately happen, agreed there are a lot of illegal e-bikes in use, but no indication whether this was one of them, perhaps you should hold your opinion until the facts emerge…

It is high time that e-bikes and mobility scooters were properly regulated. They should carry registration plates and the rider should be licensed in the same way that moped riders are and should be required to carry third party insurance.
That only happens in society that isn’t lawless.

I’m both a motorist & and e-bike user, there are both bad cyclists and bad drivers on this island. Some pedestrians are awful too. A return of good manners would go along way to solve a lot of the problems. I’ve seen cyclists going the wrong way up a one way street & going through red lights. I’ve had cars nearly taking me out several times because they just don’t think we have a right to use the road & I can’t count the amount of times I’ve nearly come off because of people with dogs on extendable leads with no control over them. So there is fault on all sides.
