Thousands of eager carnival goers lined the streets of Newport last night (Saturday) as the town’s annual carnival brought an amazing display of floats, music and dancing to the heart of the Island.
The procession got underway from Church Litten at 19:00, with colourful floats, marching bands and walking entries making their way through the town centre. Walking groups from across the Isle of Wight took part in the parade, alongside a number of entries from the mainland, helping to make the evening an unforgettable display of community spirit.
Following the success of the event, which organisers described as ‘booming’, Newport Carnival organisers took to social media to thank the thousands who turned out to support the carnival.
Collection buckets were carried through the crowds on Saturday night, with organisers thanking everyone who donated. Those who were unable to contribute during the event can still make a donation online to help ensure Newport Carnival continues for years to come.
Attention now turns to the Shanklin Children’s and Main Carnival on 2nd and 5th August.
