Tributes are being paid to Victor Gallucci – the former TV actor and founder of the Isle of Wight Classic Car Extravaganza – who sadly died yesterday aged 81.
Probably most famous for his role as DC Tom Baker on ITV crime drama The Bill, Gallucci also won a place in the Guinness Book of records for the longest-serving extra. It is said he appeared on the show more than 1,000 times.
Many Islanders would’ve seen Vic surrounded by antique motors at the Classic Car Extravaganza either at the Quay in Newport or on the Esplanade in Ryde. The event has been going for some 22 years and raises money for Mountbatten Hospice and St Catherines School.
Gallucci’s also appeared in Jane and the Lost City (1987), Top Secret (1984), Why Not Stay for Breakfast (1979). He even played a stormtrooper in Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope.
A post on the Isle of Wight Classic Car Extravaganza page has said:
“It is with great sadness the team at the Isle of Wight Classic Car Extravaganza have to announce the death of its creator and organiser Victor Gullucci who passed away suddenly yesterday Sunday 14th May 2023.
“Obviously, this has come as a terrible shock to us all, but we are hopeful with the backing of Ryde Town Council and our Sponsors, the show will go on as planned in Vic’s memory.”

God bless you Vic, a great guy and a sad loss. Condolences to his family.
Very sad news. Vic was a great man.
