Bembridge’s The Elms is to be de-registered as a nursing home it has been confirmed.
Hartford Care – who oversee the running of the establishment of Swains Road – has told Island Echo that The Elms will provide residential, dementia, respite and day care once the de-registering process has concluded.
A total of 4 nursing staff will not be made redundant and have instead been offered roles at either Highfield Nursing Home in Ryde, or Springfield Nursing Home in Shanklin, should they chose to accept them.
The care company said that the decision to de-register was taken in consultation with the Isle of Wight Council in order to help meet the high demand for residential care here on the Island.
Kevin Shaw, Chief Executive Officer at Hartford Care, comments:
“We are in the process of de-registering The Elms in Bembridge as a nursing home. It will provide residential, dementia, respite and day care once this process has completed. Hartford Care made the strategic decision to do so in close collaboration with the Local Authority, to help meet high demand on the Isle of Wight for residential care.
“We will continue to offer nursing care across two of our homes on the Island – Highfield Nursing Home in Ryde and Springfield Nursing Home in Shanklin. At Springfield, we recently added an additional 16 bedrooms offering nursing care.
“There will be no redundancies due to the de-registering; the four nurses affected have all been offered positions within our other homes on the Island.”
