Delays are being experienced by motorists travelling between Newport and Yarmouth following a collision between a car and a tree this afternoon (Thursday).
2 fire appliances from Newport and East Cowes, alongside paramedic crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and multiple police units, have responded to the incident at the junction of Bouldnor Road and Hill Place Lane.
It’s understood that the vehicle left the carriageway at speed and collided with the tree at the roadside at around 16:00.
Delays are being experienced by motorists in both directions and at least 1 lane is blocked.
The current condition of any casualties is unknown.
UPDATE @ 16:33 – It’s understood that at least 1 person is feared trapped within their vehicle following the impact.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled from its base in Thruxton but has since been stood down whilst flying over Lymington – just seconds away from the crash scene.
A fire officer and an ambulance operational commander have also arrived at the scene.
UPDATE @ 17:14 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the driver of the vehicle has sustained injuries after colliding with a tree.
Police were called to the scene, at the junction of Yarmouth Road and Hill Place Lane, at 16:08.

These trees gotta stop hitting cars
Another tree travelling at excess speed….what must we do to avoid them ? ….
Poor tree! I hope it didn’t get too damaged, but knowing how these things go, it wouldn’t surprise me if it got cut down. Note the damn driver was travelling at speed. When will they learn? They’ll probably be back behind the wheel again in no time. Should be banned from being able to drive.
Nasty spot there. I lost a wing mirror when I was forced over to the white rails by an oncoming lorry straddling the centre line.
