A car has careered off the road and up a bank on Bully’s Hill in Brading this evening (Tuesday).
The driver of the silver Ford Focus appears to have lost control when travelling down the steep hill from Brading Downs to The Mall.
No other vehicles have been involved but it’s thought the Focus was travelling in convoy with a second vehicle – a Ford Fiesta.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene with an operational commander, a critical care doctor and an ambulance crew. Earlier, a fire appliance from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was also in attendance in the interests of scene safety.
Police are also in attendance and officers are directing traffic past the scene.
It’s understood the occupants of both cars are on the Isle of Wight on holiday.

It’s not like driving in London. So many curvy roads with bumpity hills?
I knew I should of got AA cover!!!
so much for a lovely holiday pops!
Driving too fast no doubt. Visitors to our beautiful island need to slow down. They don’t know the roads. Chill out, your on holiday!
Well I feel very sorry for these holidaymakers and how luck they were to have all these professionals in attendance???
I wish I could find some of these drivers that are going too fast. I commute from Sandown to Newport and back for work and its more than a rare occurrence that some asshat is not driving the entire distance between 35-40 MPH, until they hit the 30 at Long Lane and then continue at their 35-40MPH.
But isn’t the downs a 50 mph Road? So someone can drive between 35 and 40 all the way if they wanted too??
National speed limit, hence the lack on small 50 repeaters. I’m not saying everyone has to fly along at 60, but when you have an open, unobstructed road and a queue of 10/15 cars behind whilst happy in your own world being king of the road it’s just irritating other road users. Totally unnecessary to do almost half the speed limit over the downs, if you think it is, get a bus pass
I agree with you on that, people need to stay untouched with the flow of traffic and keep the same speed as drivers infront, but like you said, 50 mph signs then into a 40 then a 30 along long lane all in the space of 50 yards, no wonder holiday makers don’t know the speed limits,
It is a 60 mph
Sandown to Newport is ‘commuting’ MayContainNuts? It’s all of nine miles. The difference between averaging 35, and say 50, within the non-30 mph restricted road sections comes to all of a few minutes. Enough to get worked up about and abuse other drivers who are in your way? Blimey
Judging from the damage it is hardly a high impact crash. Why do you always make out things are worse than they are. Things not going well for you?
More idiots will be along soon…
More bad driving on the IW
You can’t park there mate
They look like “city boys” not used to steep hills, narrow roads or sharp bends. However they still drive like idiots.
More bad IOW drivers, everyday there are crashes, sooner we get our new traffic police officers and they start clamping down on Speeding and antisocial driving the better for the rest of us.
Read the article, it clearly states they were on holiday so how come you think they are IOW drivers?
Not a island driver read it properly
Obviously not locals as car not on its roof!
HA HA HA HA HA!! Pure stupidity !! Probably looking at the scenery.. Idiot.
Holiday makers, looking at the scenery and not the road… Should be charged with undue care and attention, could have killed someone/something… ban them from coming back !!!
There is a sign when you come off the ferry it says island roads are different for a reason.
You know what. Nobody knows why they lost control perhaps the driver sneezed it’s not unlikely with such high pollen counts at the moment and yet everyone blames it on bad driving. Perhaps they swerved to miss an animal. Why not just wish them well and be happy it wasn’t another tragic death.
new to island/ can’t drive..
