A multi-agency operation was launched after an 18m vessel was reported to be taking on water off Cowes last night (Saturday).
The incident unfolded at around 20:45 when Salutay, which had left Hamble earlier in the day, got into difficulty and radioed for the assistance of HM Coastguard.
The vessel had travelled up Southampton Water and was heading south when the alarm was raised near Calshot Spit, prompting a response involving HM Coastguard, RNLI, firefighters and Cowes Harbour Master.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat was launched and rendezvoused with the casualty vessel mid-Solent, before Salutay was taken to Trinity Landing in Cowes, where Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was standing by.
The vessel’s skipper and his dog were taken safely ashore while efforts were made to remove water from the boat.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was requested to attend The Parade, with a fire crew from Ryde assisting HM Coastguard with efforts to keep the casualty vessel afloat.
Salutay was subsequently made safe at anchor on the River Medina, where further checks were carried out on the vessel this morning (Sunday).
It is not the first time Salutay has required the assistance of emergency crews in waters around the Isle of Wight…
