Bembridge RNLI has launched both of its lifeboats to assist 1 man and his dog who are onboard a trawler that has gone aground off St Helens this afternoon (Friday).
It was at around 13:30 that Solent Coastguard was alerted to the plight of the lone sailor, prompting the launch of Bembridge’s inshore lifeboat.
The 16m trawler has gone aground in the vicinity of St Helens Fort, at the entrance to Bembridge Harbour.
Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat has now also hit the water with crew members working to assess the damage to the casualty vessel and secure an anchor.
It remains unclear as to how the vessel ended up in the unusual predicament.
