Thousands of spectators lined the shores of the Solent as a spectacular fireworks display brought the historic 200th anniversary Cowes Week to a colourful close on Friday night.
The skies above Cowes were illuminated as the traditional end-of-regatta fireworks made their long-awaited return for the first time since 2019.
Beginning at 21:30 and lasting just 15 minutes, the Bicentenary North Sails Fireworks Display saw bursts of colour light up the night sky above the Solent, watched by crowds gathered along Cowes Parade, The Green and Egypt Esplanade, as well as on the Esplanade in East Cowes.
The fireworks marked the culmination of the 200th anniversary edition of Cowes Week, which has seen hundreds of boats take part in racing throughout the week alongside an extensive programme of shoreside entertainment.
Friday’s spectacular followed another special display above Cowes just 24 hours earlier.
On Thursday evening, a 4-plane aerial display took place over the Solent as another of the major attractions organised to celebrate the regatta’s bicentenary.
The display featured a Yak-52 and Pitts Special performing aerobatics and formation flying, alongside the historic Fairey Swordfish and a Firebird solo display.
Taking to the skies at 19:10, the aerial spectacle followed a performance by the Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth on Cowes Parade.
