Isle of Wight brother and sister Jack and Elizabeth Elton-Walters took part in the Virgin London Olympic Distance Triathlon on Sunday at the ExCel Arena in London.
Setting off in an earlier wave and competing in her first triathlon, Elizabeth got off to a great start by putting in a solid time on the 1.5km open water swim. She followed this up with consistent cycle and run legs to finish with a great time of 3:17:12, and did the whole thing with a big smile on her face, commenting: “I can’t wait to have another go next year and beat my time!”.
In a later wave, Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team and Wight Tri member Jack set off to beat his time from last year’s event. Putting in a fair swim, he moved to the 40km bike leg determined to make up time. Averaging just shy of 25mph and overtaking most of the faster swimmers and competitors from earlier waves, he tore through the course before moving to the run. Now well ahead of schedule, Jack pushed on through the 10km run to get a final time of 2:22:07, joining the elite ‘sub-2:30 group’ of triathletes and knocking a huge 14 minutes 44 seconds off of last year’s time.
