The body of a 61-year-old man was discovered on the beach at Compton last night (Wednesday), Police have confirmed. 3 lifeboats, 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard helicopter were all deployed on a search of the West Wight beauty spot at around 21:00, as first reported by Island Echo. It didn’t take long to locate the casualty – who Police confirm had been pulled from the water – with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilising a critical care paramedic, a doctor, an ambulance crew and an operational commander to the scene. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man’s life and with the male – from Brighstone – pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being treated as unexpected.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was informed of the death leading to officers being deployed, including a detective from Newport CID. A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson has said:
“Police were called at 21:44 on 28th August by the ambulance service to a report that a male had been pulled from the water at Compton Beach. “Police attended and confirmed a 61-year-old man from Brighstone had died. “The death is being treated as unexpected and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
