A person has been airlifted to hospital after becoming seriously unwell aboard a cargo ship off the Isle of Wight earlier this afternoon (Saturday).
At 14:15, HM Coastguard received reports of a person in medical difficulty on board a cargo vessel in waters off the Isle of Wight.
Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was sent, successfully evacuating the patient from the ship.
However, their condition deteriorated, which led to further assistance being requested.
A HM Coastguard helicopter from St Athan in South Wales was scrambled.
The casualty was winched off the lifeboat during a high-speed transfer and flown to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
