The Isle of Wight Food Partnership has joined a national network working to create healthier, fairer and more sustainable food systems – just over a year after the Island organisation was launched.
The Partnership has become an official member of the Sustainable Food Places network, connecting the Isle of Wight with organisations working on food-related issues across the UK.
Set up by the Isle of Wight Council, the Food Partnership brings together local organisations, businesses, farming representatives, community groups and public sector partners.
Its work focuses on tackling food insecurity, supporting local producers, improving access to nutritious food and promoting sustainability across the Island’s Biosphere.
Those behind the Partnership say joining the national network will strengthen the Isle of Wight’s voice in wider discussions around food, while providing opportunities to explore new approaches to local challenges.
Amelie-Rose Owen, Vice Chair of the Isle of Wight Food Partnership, has said:

“Joining the Sustainable Food Places network gives the Isle of Wight Food Partnership a fantastic platform to explore new opportunities locally, while benefiting from the experience and support of a respected national movement.”
The Partnership says its collaborative approach is intended to help build a more resilient food system that benefits communities across the Isle of Wight.
Membership of Sustainable Food Places is also expected to provide opportunities to share experiences and learn from initiatives elsewhere in the country.
