Ryde in Bloom is blossoming for 2022 and, thanks to event sponsor Wightlink, it is going to be blooming marvellous!
The annual competition is open to all residents in Ryde with 10 growing categories to suit all spaces.
It’s hoped that this year more children will be involved and will get growing at home, or at school. With this in mind, organisers have partnered with Haylands Farm to provide over 700 packs of seeds free of charge to Primary schools in the Ryde area.
The Mayor of Ryde, Councillor Michael Lilley, recently visited Oakfield Primary School and, along with some of the fantastic pupils at the Forest Hub, planted some of the Haylands Farm seeds. Mayor Lilley had a guided tour of the Forest School and pupils talked through all their ideas and plans.
Pupils at Dover Park, St Mary’s and Fiveways will also be taking part, either via the school or at home. Ryde in Bloom organisers want to encourage the childrens’ category to be creative with what they grow their seeds in, especially if they do not have a garden. This can be in anything: a wellington boot, pots and pans, jars, there is no limit to what the seeds can be grown in so let imaginations run wild!
Ryde In Bloom 10 thriving categories are:
- Allotment of the Year
- Best Business & Commercial premises
- Best use of a Small Space
- Biggest Transformation
- Front Garden of the Year
- Best School Garden
- Queen’s Jubilee Garden
- Best Wildlife & Eco Garden
- Community Garden
- Children aged 3 – 10 & 11 – 17
Judging will be based on 5 photos submitted and will take place the week commencing Monday 4th July 2022. Closing date for photo submissions is Thursday 30th June 2022.
