Organisers of the annual Isle of Wight Scooter Rally have announced that the event has been cancelled for 2020.
VFM say that the safety of scooterists, bands, crew and the Isle of Wight residents is paramount and that they are not prepared to compromise that.
Those behind the August Bank Holiday event say they have been constantly monitoring the Government updates and feel that, currently, cancelling – or ‘postponing’ as organisers have stated – is the only safe option.
For those that have purchased VFM 2020 AAA tickets, these will remain valid for the 2021 Isle of Wight Scooter Rally.

About time too …… This was the right decision which should have been made months ago, it would have been madness to allow thousands of people to descend on the Island just after the easing of restrictions . I would suggest that the organisers of the Rally make next years event extra special and that way everyone can celebrate its return in 2021 .
A benzine dream free weekend!
no dodgy haircuts on old men trying to be cool and pretending they were mods in their youth
Why so angry Mark?
I think there may be a misconception.
VFM do not run the Isle of Wight scooter rally. They run ‘their ‘official’ campsite. Which this year had been moved over to by Lake. This event has been cancelled. The vast majority of scooterists stay in hotels & B&Bs in Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin etc & most of these do not visit the site. So i am sorry Mark & Nic but you better replan your weekend, as we’re still coming.
In fact it’s an opportunity for those hotels looking for business to cash in on the people that would have been using the campsite as they will now be looking for somewhere to stay.
Odd it was cancelled…sorry postponed, before Boris had made his latest recommendations Tuesday.
Don’t bother coming. I don’t know if you noticed over the years, a lot of hotels and pubs have signs outside saying “NO SCOOTERISTS”
Why not visit somewhere with a flat landscape. as scooters always seem to break down at the slightest gradient (that’s a slope or hill)
Aren’t you a “KILLJOY ” Mark ,it’s funny being a resident on the Island for over 50 years i witnessed the animosity to the scooterists in the 80s and I saw both sides of the ill feelings towards the scooterists in those dark days . Over the past 35 years MOST attitudes have changed(Clearly not yours) and the Island has come to accept the annual Rally as part of our social scene . I wonder Mark could you name some of these establishments which do not welcome scooterists ? I can state i have never seen any evidence myself as a resident of Ryde !!! The Island heavily relies on tourism in every shape and form , without visitors tens of thousands of us would be unemployed . I am glad that the VFM have finally made the right decision to cancel this years event because of concerns from the COVID19 epidemic , joining virtually every other event planned on the Island this year . It is going to be a very testing time for us all in the hospitality sector . I hope that next year that ALL social events will return to the Island and we can finally get back to normality .
I think you find most hotels love the scooterist, I took a survey last year in Sandown & Shanklin and nearly 85 % of hotels were full of scooterists.
Do you live on Isle of Wight Mark?
i do indeed, do you?
For those scooterists who are still planning to come down to the Island on the Bank Holiday weekend , we still welcome you but you should remember that , Bar’s Restaurants , Cafe’s will still have restrictions to numbers of customers allowed into their premises ( SEATING ONLY ) any congregation of large groups will not be allowed in or around public houses,,so you take your chances with visiting and hopefully the weather will be fine for your visit . The welfare and safety not just for the visitors but for the Island residents is paramount
35 years ago things were different, most didn’t even know what “green issues” were. But now people care very much about the air they breathe. Scooters are not a very “green” way of travelling at all, just want to ask, where are all the people who care about the environment when this lot arrives?
Quote “VFM say that the safety of scooterists, bands, crew and the Isle of Wight residents is paramount and that they are not prepared to compromise that.”
Notice how Isle of Wight residents come last in that list. Good decision. No need to keep an eye out for them when they undertake on junctions or ride on the pavements.
You will see plenty of scooters & Scooterist this August Bank, local & visiting, having a good, safe & legal holiday on the island, spending in very grateful island business.
Every seaside town in history as managed to survive through one thing tourism. So stop been dicks
Result !!!
Annoying things they are 🙁
