The count to find out who will be the next Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Hampshire & Isle of Wight is underway this morning (Friday). Ballot boxes from across the Island are being opened and counted at Medina Leisure Centre in Newport. Verification of both the postal votes and the polling station is underway to ensure that all votes that have been cast have made their way to the count. Locals turned out to 1 of a total of 71 polling stations across the Isle of Wight to cast their votes yesterday (Thursday), with stations open from 07:00 – 22:00. When making their decision, voters had the following 4 choices; incumbent Donna Jones (Conservative), Becky Williams (Labour), Prad Bains (Liberal Democrats) and Don Jerrard (Justice and Anti-Corruption).
What does the role of Police and Crime Commissioner entail?
The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) was created to be the voice of the people and to hold the police to account. They are responsible for allocating funding and overseeing priorities, with an aim to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service, according to the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners. It is expected that the winner will be announced later today (Friday) once all the votes from across the region have been collated. Island Echo will bring you that news as soon as it drops.

What a monumental waste of time, effort and OUR MONEY!
So you would prefer a dictatorship where members of authority are just appointed? Ok…. :S
You mean, like a job?
We are living in a dictatorship
We have an UNELECTED PM in place
No one voted for Rishi, he was placed in his position by his
W E F Bosses
Soon they will sign our Sovereignty over to the W H O
Keep up to date on the News, it’s happening
We managed quite well before this non job was created. Still one got Starmer off his beer and curry party.
What has a “Police and Crime Commissioner” got to do with authority? My objection is to havnig an election at all for this non-job. As it turns out, and to no-one’s surprise, each polling station saw an average of 9 voters an hour for the 12 hours or so they had to be opened, rented and staffed. And people sya FB6 was a waste of money.
As long as it’s not the CON-servative and another 4 yrs of nothing .. but as Trump says .. it’s rigged .. let’s hope the island want change
Does it matter, do we actually care? The turnout was so small because everyone knows the candidates don’t really care about the Island, if they did they would have come and canvassed here but, as far as I am aware, they did not!
Only 16% bothered to vote .. but the other 84% have spoken as well .. what’s the point of a PCC .. a cost burden we could all do without, invest in the Police it’s what the public need and want ..
