Awards and medals were handed out at the recent Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards event.
His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight Awards were held in the Royal Yacht Squadron Pavilion and hosted by the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for the South East (SERFCA.)
Guests were welcomed by Commander Anthony Stickland, RD RNR (retired) Chair, Hampshire and Isle of Wight (SERFCA.)
A total of 4 Island residents received the British Empire Medal (BEM). Mrs Diana O’Grady has given over 50 years service to the Arreton community and elsewhere on the island. She has been involved with the Pony Club since the 1970s and has been a Poppy Appeal organiser for over 30 years. She was also a prison visitor and deeply involved with the Isle of Wight Music Festival.
Mr Dean Terrett founded the Isle of Wight Search and Rescue Service in 2011. It also supports the blue light services and supervises emergency helicopter landing sites.
Mrs Hazel Britton and Mr Stephen Double were recognised for their efforts during the COVID pandemic.
2 new Deputy Lieutenants (DL) were commissioned. Recognised as the eyes and ears of the Sovereign, Captain Michael Acland and Mr Andrew Watt bring the number of DLs on the Island up to 20.
Lance Corporal Adam Peckham gained the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal. Having served 6 years as a regular in the Royal Artillery, he joined the reserves in 2013.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Awards for Exemplary Service went to PCSO Jacqueline May, based in Sandown, and PCSO Fiona Hyslop, who operates in the Ryde area.
HM Long Service Prison Awards, for long service and good conduct, were received by Nigel Humphries, Deborah Jones, Carly Mills and Kerry Stott.
St. John’s Ambulance Grand Prior’s Award was gained by Miss Louise Cannon, who had already been named Cadet of the Year.
Corporal Daniel Bishop was the recipient of the Best Reservist Award, presented by Jeremy Dale, Managing Director of Seasafe Systems which holds the Gold Award under the Employer Recognition Scheme.
HM Lord-Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon JP, named 4 cadets who will assist in her official duties over the ensuing year. They are Cadet Petty Officer Katherine Andrews – Ryde School Combined Cadet Force, Able Cadet Fi Groves – Training Ship Osborne, Cowes Sea Cadets, Cadet Corporal Jessica Whiteley – No.2 Ryde Troop, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force, and Cadet Sergeant Eleanor Crosswell – 1024 (Isle of Wight) Squadron, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wing Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
