Pupils at an Isle of Wight primary school raised £235 for charity after taking part in a fun-filled ‘Tomato the Teachers’ event to mark Red Nose Day.
Staff at Arreton Primary School bravely volunteered to be targets, with Mr Oliver, Mr Morrison, Mrs Hirons, Mr McCarty, Mrs McCarty, Miss Cooke, Mrs Monk and Mrs Renouf all stepping forward.
Children voted for which teachers they wanted to throw tomatoes at, with plenty of laughter as tomatoes were squished, launched and splattered across the playground.
The event created a lively atmosphere, with pupils cheering each other on throughout.
Mrs Coates, Headteacher, has said:
“At Arreton, we value building strong relationships with our families and pupils. When children enjoy coming to school, they truly thrive in our inclusive environment.
“Finding fun ways to engage our community – and embracing the Red Nose Day spirit of ‘Take Yourself Funny’ – our staff are always willing to go above and beyond to create memorable experiences.”
One pupil said the event was “the best day ever”, while another added:
“Throwing tomatoes and raising money for charity… what a day!”
Families helped raise a total of £235.

What good sports the teachers are, the children must have loved that.
Should have mopped them up with some bread.
