Firefighters have been called to an arcing overhead power cable at Tapnell this lunchtime (Sunday).
Crews from Newport and Yarmouth have been mobilised to the scene next to Tapnell Farm in the interests of safety.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the hazardous situation at 11:43, according to control.
Witnesses say that the power cable is making loud and frightening noises.
Engineers from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have been called to make the cable safe.
Tapnell Farm is experiencing technical issues as a result.
“We are currently having issues with our SSE electric supply and power to the farm park will be going off shortly (Sunday afternoon)- at this time we will be unable to take payment through the tills and the café will be closed.
“Please keep an eye on this post for updates as and when we get our power back!
“We will let you know ASAP”

Just needs tightening up. Water and electricity don’t mix.
Say something that makes sense for once
I will try to go down to a level YOU ‘may’ understand, as you are a woman.
Arcing electricity, is almost always caused by a connection not being tightly made. The small gap then provides a poor electrical connection and sparks jump where the two conductors meet, causing heat, which adds to the gap due to metal expanding as it heats up. Thus fire can occur.
Yet the Sunday paid fire CREWS IF they sprayed such with water, would cause even more damage as water is a conductor of electricity hence my last line.
The fire crew clearly know this, and my ‘beef’ being why have so many there, as at worst if a fire started just turn off the power and then one hose would suffice.
Hope it is not too technical. Best arrange the soft furnishings if so.
