A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving after a BMW crashed and caught fire in Brighstone late last night (Sunday).
Police were called to a single-vehicle collision on Hunny Hill, Brighstone, at 22:10.
A silver BMW crashed before catching fire, prompting a response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the vehicle became completely engulfed by flames, forcing the temporary closure of the B3399 between Mottistone and Brighstone while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A 45-year-old man from Ventnor was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving.
He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

public sector employs useless individuals hence
they cannot stop a bus at a bus stop or run a bath.
If I came out of retirement I wouldn’t work for a sloppy
outfit, so we have to make do with nothing getting done.
Okay, first of all; Never going to happen. Secondly; The problem here is less to do with speed (though it is a factor here and in other instances, I won’t deny it) and more to do with competency or the lack thereof.
Simply calling for a blanketed 20mph won’t make the problems go away. An idiot can still have an accident at a slow speed. A car is still a deadly piece of machinery, even with the engine switched off.
I any case, they’ve taken the speed cameras away, which, the last time I checked either didn’t work functionally, nor did they even work in a practical sense. Do you honestly think they’ll spend money to put them back, much less govern them?
No, it’s the responsibility to be in charge of essentially a multi-horsepower battering ram. People should be tested after a period of time in order to gauge their abilities, fading or otherwise.
If you honestly believe such changes that you proposing will appear anytime soon, you’re deluding yourself.

Speed Camera’s would work, they were using
