The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to an incident involving a cyclist on Military Road near Atherfield this morning (Saturday).
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including a St John Ambulance crew – are on scene to the west of Whale Chine.
Local ambulance crews are being assisted by the flying doctors of the air ambulance, which touched down at the roadside at 10:50.
Island Echo understands that a cyclist has come off their bicycle and has sustained an injury.
Thankfully, those injuries are not life-threatening and the cyclist is expected to be conveyed by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital shortly.
No other vehicles have been involved and whilst the exact cause of the incident is unknown, conditions are very windy on the coastal road this morning.
The road remains open in both directions.
UPDATE – The cyclist – a man in his 50s – is now being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
The air ambulance has departed the scene and is returning to base at Thurxton in Andover, bringing the incident to a close.

Flying Dr! Singular. You keep reporting that the “flying doctors” are helping, but unless someone is in training for a helicopter role then there is only one doctor on board and one paramedic
3 comments disappear into the twighlite zone……spooky.
It included my comment about using ambulances and not expensive helicopters. When i was a kid i used to limp home and mum used a spit covered hanky… them were the days and it didn’t do any harm.
Lol, I made a similar comment.
The helicopter does a great job,
But it does seem to be called out more recently, for some strange reason. Maybe something to do with there charitable status, similar to the RNLI that are becoming more like a towing service for the rich.
