The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed on the beach in Bembridge tonight (Saturday) where medics are tending to an injured holidaymaker who has fallen from the sea wall.
Paramedics and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were the first emergency crews on scene at Forelands at around 19:30.
Now, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge have been drafted in to assist in moving the casualty, who is located on the sand between The Beach Hut and the Crab & Lobster pub.
Doctors and paramedics from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance touched down in a nearby field at 20:30, however, the pilot has now relocated the helicopter to the beach – directly beside the casualty.
As darkness falls, lighting towers have been erected by the Coastguard to assist the HEMS team with their assessment and treatment of the injured person.
Island Echo understands the person – down on holiday from Lincolnshire – has fallen a considerable height off the unguarded sea wall onto concrete steps and the beach below.
UPDATE @ 21:35 – The casualty has been transferred to the air ambulance and is being flown directly to Southampton General Hospital.
Rather unusually, the air ambulance conducted a ‘hot’ landing, keeping the propellers running whilst the casualty was transferred into the aircraft – something more commonly seen with the Coastguard Helicopter.

A dangerous wall and needs to be made safe or closed off completely.
Perhaps if the poor victim sued the council they will do one or the other options.
We taxpayers will end up paying the compensation. Does that appeal? Dozens of people use the path daily without incident. Had they just left the Crab?
