Tobias Green has been handed a 51-week prison sentence for violence, racism and knife incidents on the Isle of Wight.
On 17th May this year, 34-year-old Tobias Green drunkenly walked through Cowes High Street and swore at a member of staff in The Anchor pub, before entering a nearby shop with a knife in his hand.
Green told the shopkeeper he wanted all the money, and swore at her when she told him to leave.
Following this, he made his way to the social club, still with the knife in hand and damaged a bannister inside, before returning to The Anchor where he proceeded to shout and bang on the windows. Police deployed and arrested Green nearby on his bicycle.
A few days later, on 21st May, after Police were called to his address on Windmill Close after it was reported he had tried to take his own life, Green spat in the eye of 1 of the paramedics treating him, and made sexually explicit gestures to another while he was alone with her in the ambulance.
In a separate incident earlier this year, on the evening of 27th January, Green approached the Floating Bridge in East Cowes and yelled abuse at 2 women unknown to him. He continued to behave oddly before shouting racist abuse at 2 passengers who were just exiting the Floating Bridge.
Green had also been involved in another public order incident in Castle Street, East Cowes, earlier that evening.
At around 07:30 on 9th August this year, while he was on court bail, Green assaulted a man known to him on Culver Parade in Sandown, punching him several times to the head and body before dragging him to the floor and kicking him.
Following investigations into all of these incidents, Green was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, 6 public order offences – one of which was racially aggravated – possession of a knife in a public place, criminal damage, common assault of an emergency worker and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
He admitted all of these offences at previous court hearings, and appeared at Isle of Wight Crown Court today (Friday) for sentencing.
Green, of Parkhurst Road in Newport, was sentenced to 51 weeks in prison.
Detective Sergeant Jamie Wilkinson said:
“These cases reflect a prolonged period of aggressive, violent, and inappropriate behaviour by Green towards a number of people on the Isle of Wight, including paramedics who are employed to keep people safe and help them in their time of need.
“His actions were nothing short of deplorable on all of these occasions. We take this sort of violence incredibly seriously, and have an especially robust stance against anyone who carries a knife in public.
“I hope the public can feel reassured that Green is now behind bars where he belongs.”

Either mental or evil so needs locking up not for months but forever, whichever afflictions it has
Absolute pillock. A menace in society. The useless island judges dish out another pathetic sentence.
No such thing as society now, its Community’s, but your right useless judges are pathetic..
Agree totally RT, but I’m with Mrs T in querying what ‘community’ means since it began using the word to refer to groups and types or those with mutual interests rather than those living in a specific area. Like ‘gay community and ‘Asian/Black community’ etc. Funny how they never refer to genders or some groups with mutual interests, like, say, the Lego community or the drinking a lot or the drug or kebab loving community.
Obviously to be continued in just a year’s time. Courts are a waste of time.
See told you another knife crime 51 weeks in prison. Knife crime isn’t taken seriously
It is, when it effects an MP, Councillor or judge.
He is obviously totally deranged. Needs a mental hospital not a prison.
Our courts are corrupted, he frightened members of public, could of killed or seriously injured but gets 51 weeks, well might do 15/20. Yet commit fraud like council tax or Universal Credit you could get 5yrs and not hurt anyone!
Our justice system isn’t fit for purpose, it’s a total disaster…that’s why crime is out of control and getting worse every day..
IF none of you have noticed our prisons are now, like the UK , filled with the worlds rejects , so we haven’t the room to jail anyone for meaningful sentences ever again.
The authorities dare not say that is the reason as too politically sensitive but nevertheless true.
Wait till the Labour get in power every crack head, gangster & immigrant will be classed as ” emotionally damaged” and free to roam the streets.
This country and Island is only going to get worse.
Yeah because everything is just tickety boo after 12 years of corrupt Tory rule, isn’t it?
So the tories have done a great job then .bob
Highly unlikely you’re the IOW MP Hiding behind a prominent ambassador’s monicker (I’m not a Tory) Using this forum for your fascism Shame on you
Should have got the full 4 years, he will be out right on time for another summer of chaos
What on earth possesses people to behave like this? Innocent persons must have really been left traumatised by this.
“A robust stance” what a joke…speakless at sentence.
No one takes illiterate statements seriously
Mental illness? Hard to believe anyone chooses to behave this way. Attempting suicide ought to be an indication something is very wrong upstairs.
Well said Lucas. He should do everyone a favour and get it right.
I’ll let him know
it was reported he had tried to take his own life,
and failed miserably – which is just another failure added to the long list of failures that is this blokes life
perhaps next time they just leave him to it and refuse to treat or “rescue” him – then he will either succeed for once, or survive and realise that no one actually cares about him and that he has a long steep hill to climb to redeem himself for all his past failings.
“we take this sort of violence incredibly seriously”
Too bad the courts don’t.
He has made bad choices None of you keyboard activists know the back story Bereavement Given toxic prescribed medication to alleviate chronic pain for a catastrophic injury causing addiction The ABH charge was against a recidivist who’s now in prison whom targeted a vulnerable person who defended himself Tobias is now a target of your vitriol Apparently he should kill himself and be hung I expect abuse from this statement
Yeah now i feel really sorry for him…thats sarcasim by the way just incase you thought i was turning as wet as you.
You can’t make excuses for his behaviour. He’s a grown man with free will. He chose to abuse drugs; no-one forced them down his throat and I doubt his injury was catastrophic or he wouldn’t be running around being such a menace. At the end of the day, he’s a public nuisance right now. Attitudes like yours just exasperate things. If he doesn’t take control of his own life, he’ll end up doing a very long jail sentence with a trail of victims in his wake.
I knew this guy when he had his act together and at that time, he was a very pleasant and personable individual. Bad things happen to lots of us throughout life, and this guy has not done himself any favours at all by choosing the wrong path. Goodness knows how much his (and others) behaviour has cost the taxpayer. Putting him in prison helps society in the short term but does not address the core issues of his offending. I don’t know the answers, but prison is probably not likely to help long term. I know that at his core, there is a decent human, I just hope he works it out before he kills an innocent person, or himself. I wish him the best of luck, but he’s going to need more than that.
