59-year-old Andrew Saurin has been jailed for more than 5 years following an incident in Ryde during the Summer, in which he brandished a knife whilst shouting threats.
As first reported by Island Echo, multiple police vehicles were called to Melville Street at around 18:16 on 13th August after receiving reports of a man, with a knife in his hand, shouting in the street.
Officers responded to the scene and initially arrested Saurin on suspicion of affray. He was subsequently charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a knife in a public place. In September, Saurin pleaded guilty to both offences and was remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing today (Tuesday).
At the Crown Court this morning, it was heard that the 59-year-old had been observed standing in the street with a knife whilst shouting threats towards someone in a nearby flat. During the incident, a very drunken Saurin smashed a glass door to gain access to the address where 2 people had barricaded themselves inside.
Saurin, of Melville Street in Ryde, was today jailed for a total of 5 years and 6 months.
Following the sentencing, DC Jess Hughes said:
“We simply do not tolerate any form of violence in our communities, and take a particularly robust stance against those who carry knives.
“I am pleased that justice has been delivered so swiftly, and hope the outcome of this case acts as a stark reminder to people of the consequences of violent behaviour.”

Look at the state of that is it human behind bars will suit him best but 5yrs out in 2 and half crazy justice system

I suppose one good thing that will come from this, he will have to go cold turkey as far has his drinking is concerned…

No, if sentence is>4 years, early release is an option, not a right.
