A large-scale power cut is affecting numerous addresses in the South Wight this evening (Sunday).
People in Chale, Blackgang, Kingates, Bierley and the outskirts of both Niton and Whitwell are experiencing issues with their electricity supply.
Heavy rain and some blustery conditions have most likely been the cause of the unplanned outage.
The outage was logged at 20:59 with an engineer from Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks set to be sent out shortly once the issue has been assessed.
UPDATE @ 21:25 – SSEN has given an estimated restoration time of 01:00 tomorrow morning.

Outage? Are we part of America now?
Get used to it, plenty more to come this Winter, so hey lets bring in unlimited newcomers to the UK to add to the energy consumption, that will help….. won’t it?
What the hell does a failure in the local power grid have to do with “newcomers”
Yet again Island Echo allows a post that is both racist and completely off-topic.
“WITHOUT POWER AS EVENING RAIN CAUSES ISSUES”
is the UK’s power infrastructure so bad now that it can’t handle a little rain…??
I know it’s been quite dry this year in general, but really? we should be used to a little rain!
sounds like everything else under this incompetent tory government,… it’s all about making profit for the rich, with no investment in maintenance of infrastructure 🙁
still, I suppose we’d better get used to it..
as long as people keep believing their lies & voting them in, nothing will change & everything will just keep slowly getting worse & worse (has anything actually got better in the last 12 years ??)
Thoes bloody tory’s started Covid then the war in Ukraine, and now the fuel crisis…they should hang their heads in shame….
