Wight Eagles maintained their unbeaten start to the season when they travelled to Portsmouth to play Meon Milton in the League Cup.
The Eagles started the game strongly against a hard-working Meon Milton, who play in the same league as the Eagles. The ever-strong defence were keeping the mainland side out of their goal area, with Eagles’ keeper Eloise not having much to do other than watch her team battle their way through the midfield. Captain Ellie Warren had a superb game, linking with Lyla Cooke – Lyla was soon ripping through the defence and got a chance to unleash a shot from about 20 yards out, finding the top corner to give the Eagles the lead (0-1).

At the start of the 2nd half, the Eagles were straight out of the blocks. Within 4 minutes, Imogen Jones found the right gap between the defence and slid the ball into the path of Kelsie Ronan to slot home (0-2).
Now the belief started to flow, and Imogen was tearing Meon apart. The Eagles played balls around the opposition, opening gaps for Kelsie, Isla and Ava to try and find the end product. With Imogen swapping wings, there was no stopping her when a great link up from Maisy Gilpin to Kelsie Ronan to turn and lay a perfect ball off for Imogen Jones to cooly slot into the bottom corner to wrap the game up (0-3).

“We’re through to the next round and a clean sheet so in my eyes it’s been an amazing weekend for the club.”
