Arrests have been made after 2 cannabis cultivations were discovered by Police on the Isle of Wight yesterday (Wednesday).
2 men – 1 from Niton and 1 from Rookley – have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating a class B drug.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“A 54-year-old man from Rookley was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.
“A 49-year-old man from Niton was arrested on suspicion of producing a class B drug.
“Both men have been released from custody but remain under investigation — this follows the discovery of two cannabis cultivations in the south of the Island.”
Police say that telling them about suspicious activity within your community is really important in helping to tackle illegal behaviour.

Drug growing is rife in certain areas in Ryde, Haylands etc. Still now even teachers are furloughed then I guess one can’t expect decency and honesty to prevail. An empty garage too much temptation for easy, tax free cash.
of course it is – the isle of wight has one of the best growing climates in the country.
Cannabis growing has been part of the island for many decades and will be well into the future – nothing is going to change that.
Anon, whilst we may have a good external climate, it won’t be so much different in a garage on the outskirts of Ryde, unless Haylands is over a thermal heat source.
They use heat lamps, growing tents etc, so our good outdoor growing climate makes little difference to most grower here.
I have seen it growing and surrounded by wire on Arreton down before, and suspect many do grow outside, but i hear not the best if so.
jai – yeah true – I was highlighting the fact that this island has always had a good growing climate.
Years ago lads used to steal the sodium lights from along the seafront in ryde for indoor growing.
Niton say no more island capital for drugs
Perhaps a more American style of law enforcement might help.
Shanklin already has its very own 24/7 Drugs Marshall
