UPDATED: A main road in and out of Sandown will be closed for 18 hours this weekend to allow for repairs to a railway bridge.
Avenue Road will be closed between Perowne Way and Tamar Close from 20:00 tomorrow night (Saturday) until 14:00 Sunday afternoon, according to Island Roads.
The closure is required for the replacement of the decking on the railway bridge by Network Rail/South West Trains.
The main diversion route will be: Perowne Way, Station Approach, The Fairway, Lake Hill, The Broadway and Avenue Road.
During the closure the width restriction at Yaverland Road, Yaverland will be temporarily suspended between Marshcombe Shute and a point 234.5 metres south-west of its junction with Meadow Way (entrance to Yaverland car park).
The diversion for Routes 2 and 3 buses will be Victoria Road, Culver Parade, Yaverland Road, left into Marshcombe Shute and right into New Road to continue the normal route.
The diversion will operate in both directions.
Traffic is anticipated to be heavy on Perowne Way and through Yaverland, especially on one of the hottest weekends of the year so far.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 08:10 – Avenue Road has reopened earlier than anticipated.
The road is now open to traffic in both directions.
