PHOTOS AND VIDEO: Islanders have been enjoying a second ‘snow day’ in less than 3 weeks after waking up to find the the Island under a blanket of snow this morning (Sunday).
Today’s wintery weather has been a stark contrast to the icy conditions experienced at the beginning of the month, with the overnight snowfall bringing an enjoyable covering this time around.
Southern Vectis buses were disrupted first thing this morning but by 11:00 almost all routes were back to normal. The same can’t be said for Hovertravel and Red Funnel’s Red Jet service – both were suspended due to the strong winds.
HM Coastguard have been busy throughout the day assisting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, whilst Vectis 4×4 Response have been helping to transport nurses to rural locations. Assistance has been required in the South Wight where the snow appears to have fallen much heavier.
With snow still on the ground and further accumulations expected this evening, it remains unclear if transport and schools will be affected tomorrow morning (Monday). Stay with Island Echo for all the latest information as it comes in with live updates – if required – from 06:00.
Thanks to everybody who has shared photos of the snow today… send your photos to [email protected].
