An underground fire on a residential road in Lake has prompted a response from firefighters and electrical engineers this morning (Tuesday).
2 appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, 1 from Shanklin and 1 from Ryde, were mobilised just before 09:30 to reports of smoke issuing from a manhole cover.
As a result of the fire, which has left visible char marks, 20 postcode areas have been left without power.
Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks are on scene and are working to investigate the issue, with hopes of restoring power by 14:00.
Fire crews have now stood down from the incident.

Four appliances to attend to a small underground fire ?
I read that as two appliances attened , One from Ryde wholetime crew , one Shanklin Retained crew .
That’s what happens when people live in their own worlds, they over catastrophise their words to match what they think and how they think which as we just witnessed can lead our own reality astray but lucky for us, the subject at hand isnt as dramatic as who to vote for lol
Keep up the good work ground crew don’t let those office sitting bosses get to you
Underground rat’s or chav’s wired up to street lamps because their giro is late….
That was just not funny and the fact you refer it as a giro which no one calls it a giro anymore suggests you were the trailblazer to this class your referring to lol you were probably waiting for the brown envelope to come through the post… like a dog waiting for his owner to come home move with the times bro we get it straight to our bank accounts now
