A yellow weather warning is in force for the Isle of Wight from this evening (Friday) until New Year’s Eve as heavy showers continue in what looks to be a very wet end to the year.
IW Met Service issued the warning this morning, saying that spells of rain overnight have accumulated to around 15mm in some parts of the Island, with flooding currently experienced in Brading where Coach Lane meets High Street and other spots across the Island.
Thursday’s rain could be followed by a further 15-20mm over the next 24 hours, but locally we could see an additional 30-40mm of rain falling between midnight tonight and 16:00 tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
The rain will be mostly moderate to heavy and persistent throughout that period, but locally there are likely to be some heavier downpours, with flash flooding possible in the worst hit areas.
IW Met Service have also said that polluted storm water could affect some of the water at the Island’s many beaches.
