
Police were called to a property fire in Totland earlier this week when firefighters discovered a number of cannabis plants growing in a bungalow.
Emergency services rushed to Amos Hill, Totland at just gone 15:00 on Monday after receiving reports of a kitchen fire, as previously reported by Island Echo. 4 appliances from Newport, Cowes and Freshwater were mobilised to the scene.
As fire crews battled to save the property from the blaze, it was discovered that a suspected Class B drug was present. It wasn’t long until the Police were alerted to the discovery of a number of cannabis plants at the property.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“We were called just before 3.30pm on Monday (December 23), following the discovery of a number of cannabis plants at an address in Amos Hill, Totland.
“A 53-year-old woman from Totland was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a controlled drug of class B. She has been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing”.
Sadly, a family pet perished in the fire suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
UPDATE FEBRUARY 2020 – 53-year-old Anne-Marie Solomon of St Andrews Way, Freshwater has been charged with producing 33 cannabis plants – a controlled drug of class B.
She is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday 14th February 2020.
