The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a fire which has spread through a family home in the West Wight this afternoon (Monday).
4 appliances – 1 from Freshwater, 2 from Newport and 1 from Cowes – are on scene at Amos Hill, located off The Avenue between Freshwater and Totland.
The 999 call was made at 15:06 reporting a domestic kitchen fire. However, the blaze has now spread to other parts of the bungalow, according to fire control.
Island Echo is told by those on scene that pets may be involved in the blaze, but it is thought all persons are accounted for.
Fire crews are working to stop the spread of fire and extinguish the flames. The Incident Command Unit is on scene co-ordinating the emergency response.
Firefighters from stations around the Island are mobilising to other areas to ensure maximum fire cover for the Island.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – The fire has been extinguished using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and COBRA. Positive pressure ventilation is now being used to clear smoke from the property.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway. Police have been called to the scene.
UPDATE @ 16:47 – The majority of crews have now stood down from the incident and have returned to station.
Further checks are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
UPDATE 27TH DECEMBER – A 53-year-old woman has been arrested by Police following the discovery of cannabis plants at the property.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2020 – 53-year-old Anne-Marie Solomon of St Andrews Way, Freshwater has been charged with producing 33 cannabis plants – a controlled drug of class B.
She is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday 14th February 2020.
