Wightlink’s Yarmouth to Lymington service will return to normal on Sunday afternoon following yesterday’s engine fire on board Wight Sky, it has been confirmed.
The first sailing will be the 13:15 from Lymington. There will be a normal timetable thereafter.
Sailings were suspended on the West Wight route on Friday morning following an engine fire on board Wight Sky at Lymington.
Wight Sky – which has suffered 3 fires in less than 18 months – has now been withdrawn from service as engineers from Wightlink, the engine manufacturer and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) continue to investigate what caused the engine failure.
Yesterday’s incident has been described as ‘difficult’ by a Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Group Commander. At the height of the incident 4 pumping appliances, 4 special appliances, HM Coastguard, Lymington RNLI Lifeboat and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were on scene.
Wightlink apologises for any inconvenience to customers.
This week’s incident is the fourth involving Wightlink to prompt a MAIB investigation in the past 4-and-a-half years.
