Both the press and public were introduced to the 2016 Wightlink Warriors speedway team for the very first time at Smallbrook Stadium this afternoon (Saturday).
After posing for photographs the 8 Warriors took to the track to demonstrate their speed and skill to the watching public, management and sponsors, who have eagerly awaited the return of speedway to the Isle of Wight since the club folded nearly 3 years ago.
Brendan Johnson, who is currently sidelined following a crash last month, was well enough to attend the practice day to meet and greet. It is hoped he will be back in action in July.
Youngsters who are part of the My First Skid speedway school were also given track time, showing impressive speed and great potential on one of the country’s largest speedway tracks.
The first meeting of the season takes place on Thursday 7th April with the Vince Memorial Trophy. Tapes up at 19:00.
Say hello to your Warriors for the 2016 season…
