Sea Cadets are being given a helping hand into professional maritime careers thanks to a new bursary launched in partnership with Cowes-based UKSA.
UKSA and the Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) have announced the creation of the Nautilus Slater Superyacht Bursary, supported by the Nautilus Slater Fund.
The scheme will provide financial support to current and former Sea Cadets, as well as Sea Cadet volunteers, looking to undertake UKSA’s Superyacht Cadetship programme.
3 recipients have already begun their training as part of UKSA’s September 2026 cadetship intake, with a 4th person set to receive support in 2027.
The bursary is designed to help overcome the financial barriers associated with gaining the professional qualifications and practical experience required to enter the maritime industry.
UKSA’s cadetship provides a structured route into the superyacht and wider maritime sectors, combining internationally recognised qualifications with practical training and industry experience.
Darrell Bate, Director of Maritime Training and Development at MSSC, has said:

The initiative builds on an existing partnership between UKSA and MSSC, with both organisations seeking to increase access to careers at sea.
UKSA says bursary funding plays an important role in helping young people who may otherwise be unable to afford professional training progress into employment within the industry.

The recipients will undertake their cadetship training at UKSA, gaining qualifications and practical experience aimed at helping them build careers across the superyacht and wider maritime industries.
