Brendan Johnson is the first rider to put pen to paper and sign to ride for the Wightlink Warriors in 2016.
As reported by Island Echo yesterday (Wednesday), the Warriors speedway team have returned to National League racing following yesterday’s acceptance at the National League AGM held in Rugby.
Commercial Director Barry Bishop said:
“Martin and I are thrilled to be able to announce that Brendan has joined the club. Brendan is a rider who we believe is yet to reach his potential and we shall be working with him from day one to achieve his personal targets for the year.
“Both on and off the track he is really popular on the Island and has taken more than just an interest in helping us achieve our goals with the club too. He is a real asset to the club and he cannot wait to meet the fans as soon as possible and deliver the Warrior message.
“I would like to thank SBS EPoS in their support and working with us to help Brendan get back on track.”
Pleased to be back home, Brendan said:
“To be back with the Isle of Wight Warriors is exciting, the Island is where I call my “Home” in speedway terms and with what the new promotion are doing I can only see this partnership going one way, and that’s to the top of the league in 2016!
“After a year away from the sport, I am hungrier than ever to establish myself as the top rider in the NL with aspirations of getting back to the PL at some point in the campaign.
“You will only see the very best from me as I want to make sure the efforts the promotion are putting in is rewarded on track, we will have a great team, all we need is the wonderful Island people to come and support us and bring back the good times to the Island.”
A very proud team partner Dave Stevens from SBS EPoS added:
“SBS EPoS are very proud to have played a part in Island Speedway securing the services of Brendan Johnson for the 2016 National League Speedway season. Brendan is an extremely talented rider who I feel could become the clubs number 1 rider next season in what will be the beginning of a new exciting era for Speedway on the Isle of Wight.”
