A Ventnor man accused of repeatedly breaching a court order designed to prevent misuse of the emergency services has appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court, again.
Michael Clifton-Smith, 38, of High Street in Ventnor, appeared before Magistrates earlier this week (Tuesday), charged with 3 counts of breach of a criminal behaviour order.
The Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in question was imposed back in November 2024 and stops Clifton-Smith from calling 999 unless it is for a genuine reason.
It is alleged that he breached the order by making contact with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service on 2 occasions and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary once.
The offences occurred between 2nd March and 2nd April 2026.
Clifton-Smith appeared in the dock unrepresented.
When asked by the bench if he had managed to find someone to represent him, Clifton-Smith said he had no luck despite looking on the Island and the mainland.
The 38-year-old suggested to Magistrates that a 6-month adjournment would allow him to continue his search and that an upcoming change in his circumstances would allow him to fund the services of a non-duty solicitor if needs be.
Magistrates denied Clifton-Smith’s request and instead adjourned the case until 19th June.
